First aid

first aidThis year P7, P6 and P5 all completed a first aid award





Burns’ Scots Poetry Competition.

This year we had a fantastic final with children really concentrating on their delivery. We had funny voices, costumes and clever props. Well done to all who took part.

Christmas Show

P7 performed a brilliant Christmas Show this year called Stable Manners. It is a modern version of the traditional nativity and included a very funny stable animals. The whole school joined in with the songs and it was very well received by all who watched.



Our P6 team this a year worked very hard to get into the Aberdeenshire Final. The questions were extremely tough this year and the performed very well as a team.


Rotary Quiz

P7 performed very well in this year’s Rotary Quiz. They were only one point away from the winning team and represented the school extremely well.



Maths Enterprise Challenge

3 P7’s went to Aberdeen University to take part in a Maths Challenge. They competed against 30 schools from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and had to solve a series of clever maths problems, complete a maths test and design a poster all about measurement.


Cross Country

Lots of pupils have been taking part in the Cross country series across the Mearns, its great to the children being active and competitive

Badminton Festival

10 P3’s and P4’s took part in a Badminton festival organised by Active Schools at Mearns Academy. We came Third place losing out on the final by one point! A great effort by all who took part.


 Cycling Proficiency

The P7’s are currently undertaking their cycling proficiency lessons with the help of the school and parents



Howe O’ the Mearns Pipe Band

We have entered into an exciting partnership with Howe O’ the Mearns Pipe Band who are giving our P3, P4 and P5’s free tuition in chanter, snare drums and tenor drum. We hope some of our children go on to play bagpipes or drums in the community band as they get older and more experienced.



Dave Ramsay

 We have been working on a project all about James Taylor a Famous Tea Merchant ( of the fame) who was born in Auchenblae. This project is going to join other projects to create an interactive museum Cutty Sark Museum



We have a good link with the local church and go for services throughout the year. At harvest we collected food for the Cyrenians food bank a Homeless charity in Aberdeen.



Friendship Group

P1 and Nursery entertained the Friendship group with a wonderful selection of Christmas carols.


Whole School Days

Roald Dahl day

P5/6 organised a phizz-whizzing Roald Dahl Day including an assembly and an afternoon of Roald Dahl themed events. Everyone dressed as their favourite book or Roald Dahl character and we had lots of fun.

Sport for Champions

Kimberly Rennicks, a commonwealth Judo Champion, visited the school to talk about what it takes to become a world class athlete then took us through our paces on a sponsored circuit.




The whole school  had great fun watching this year’s Panto, Sinbad,  at Websters Theatre Arbroath. This is the second year we have been and it gets better every time.



Comic Relief

P3/4 organised a fun Red Nose day this year. They had a fantastic assembly followed by a Red Nose Fair in the hall. Everyone enjoyed playing the games, watching the amazing talent and raising money for a good cause.

World Book Day



 P1 enjoyed a visit to Montrose basin to look at the wildlife that lives there. They had fun exploring the mudflats.
