Our Achievements 2018/19
First aid – P5,6 and 7 all have the opportunity to complete the Bronze, Silver and Gold level First Aid certificate run by Tom Malcolm of Grampian Training Services.
P7 go to Dalguise with all the other P7’s from our cluster of Primary schools. It is a great opportunity for the children to challenge themselves and learn new skills they didn’t know they had. It is also an opportunity to meet other children from other schools and start to make friendships before they move onto Mearns Academy.
Every year, P7 ( and some P6) take the lead in staging a Christmas Play. This year we performed 5 Gold Rings. The rest of the school joined in by singing songs and playing extras.
Burns’ Scots Poetry Competition.
Every year we celebrate the Scots Language by hosting a poetry recital competition. The children are challenged to bring a Scots poem alive by using voices, costumes, actions and props. Every year the standard seems to get better and better.
Our P6 are entered into the Euroquiz. Teams from across Aberdeenshire compete to represent the area at the national final. The teams are asked questions on European, history, geography, politics and language.
This year we came a very close second place. Well done!
Our P7 get to compete in a general knowledge quiz against all the other Primary schools in the cluster.
Maths Enterprise Challenge
Three pupils are chosen to represent the school at the University of Aberdeen Maths enterprise challenge. This a day of maths problems, presentations and maths games against over schools across Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen. The event is held in the beautiful Elphinstone Hall.
P5 have the opportunity to complete the level 2 Bikeability award. This is run by parent volunteers and we appreciate the time and energy they commit to this scheme every year.
Howe O’ the Mearns Pipe Band
We have entered into an exciting partnership with Howe O’ the Mearns Pipe Band who are giving our P3, P4 and P5’s free tuition in chanter, snare drums and tenor drum. We hope some of our children go on to play bagpipes or drums in the community band as they get older and more experienced.
We have a good link with the local church and go for services throughout the year. At harvest we collected food for the Cyrenians food bank a Homeless charity in Aberdeen.
Whole School Days
